Meet Dr. Chizoba Anako

Dr. Chizoba Anako is a nationally recognized, award-winning, published nurse who has been in practice since 2006. A prominent Clinical Research Investigator and Advance Practice Provider, Dr. Anako is the Ryan White HIV Program Women’s Health Program Manager at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. In addition to her work in infectious disease, Dr. Anako is an assistant professor in the Graduate Program for the School of Nursing at Bowie State University.

The impressive education and exceptional qualifications of Dr. Anako are remarkable. She obtained her Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in nursing from Southern Connecticut State University and her Doctorate from Johns Hopkins University in addition to her Post- Master’s Certificate in Education. An extraordinary student, Dr. Anako received several prestigious scholarships throughout her education and was inducted into the Mu Beta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing through Southern Connecticut State University and Sigma Tau International Honor Society at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Anako was the principal investigator in several clinical research projects and has actively participated in clinical research since 2013. Dr. Anako has experience in scholarly writing and published her work in The Maryland Nurse Journal. She has presented at various local and national medical conferences, including the Eastern Nursing Research Conference at Yale University. In addition, Dr. Anako participates in federal grant-funded research programs through the district of Columbia, the Health Resource and Service Administration (HRSA), the HIV/AIDS Bureau, and the National Institute of Health (NIH).

In addition to her appointment as a Board of Trustees member of the Nursing Foundation of Maryland, Dr. Anako also serves as an Editorial Board Member for the peer-reviewed Maryland Nurse Journal (TMNJ) through the Maryland Nurses Association. She is also a peer reviewer for the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS care (JANAC). In addition, she has professional affiliations with the American Academy of HIV Medicine, American Nurses Association, Association for Medical Education and Research on Substance Abuse (AMERSA), Association of Nurses in AIDS CARE, Johns Hopkins Alumni Association, Maryland Action Coalition (MDAC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), National League of Nursing, and the Nurses on Board Coalition.

Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Anako loves to spend time with her family and actively participates in her children’s education. She is the homeroom mom for her son’s kindergarten class at St. Mary of the Mills, where she helps to organize class events. In addition, Dr. Anako loves to travel, spend time with her family, and dance.
